"Whether you believe you can or believe you can't, either way you are right. Here's some extra text to form two lines in there. -Henry Ford"
Jan earned her BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and a concentration in plants from the University of Utah in 1994.  After graduation, Jan worked with the Utah Department of Wildlife Resources where she helped in the recovery programs for endangered fish and riparian areas throughout Utah. Jan developed habitat suitability matrices for use in biological assessment of the Virgin River. She summarized field data and analyzed results to determine trends in fish populations of the Virgin River basin and defined historic and present native fish communities of Utah. Jan co-authored a Reference Guide for Native Fish, Amphibians, and Reptiles in Utah. She also performed preliminary soil analysis of the Spiranthes diluvialis Shev. and co-authored Preliminary Soil Analysis of Spiranthes diluvialis Shev., Sites in Northeastern, Central, and Southeastern Utah.

When Jan and her family moved to Clemson, she decided to take some time off from her career to be a full time mom.  She feels that she learned more during that time than in all of her time at school or work!  While the kids were young, Jan started volunteer work. She has worked with Girl Scouts, with local schools doing science enrichment programs, and with a handicap horse-back riding program. Jan is still an active volunteer today.

As the kids got older, Jan went back to work as a Program Manager in the Psychology Department at Clemson University.  She managed research grants, budgets, purchasing and inventory, as well as monitoring protocols and regulations for research.

Since moving to Charlotte, Jan has worked at Young’s Garden Center managing annuals, perennials, tropical and container sales. Jan managed all aspects of inventory from ordering to scrap reduction including moving slow selling inventory and reducing plant loss to insects or disease. She was responsible for launching two new product lines including merchandising and creating point of sales displays. Jan streamlined product flow at the cash registers by combining and reducing item numbers on the sales floor as well as in the computer system. Jan analyzed vendors and selected the highest quality products while maintaing low freight costs, competitive pricing, and maintaining gross margin goals on product sales.

Jan’s combined knowledge and experience in management and operations, along with George’s background, makes for a great working team at American Epoxy Floors, Inc.
